EU-Korea Cluster cooperation fostered by Koranet project

In the framework of the KORANET project, Veneto Innovazione organized the second "KOREA-EU Cluster Cooperation Workshop” on 22 March 2011, in order to promote collaboration  opportunities between Venetian, European and Korean clusters.

The workshop was attended by Korean and European experts and project partners presenting to the audience their contributions on different cluster models in Germany, UK, Italy, Turkey and South Korea. The round table discussion focused on the opportunities and advantages of the international cooperation between clusters for productive systems and on the appropriate actions to promote it.

In the following days the Korean delegation, composed by representatives of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the National Research Foundation, research institutes and industrial complexes, and the international experts took part in a cluster tour aimed at putting them in contact with different establishments representing the Triveneto productive, entrepreneurial and technological context.

The tour stopovers were: Nanofab, Uniflair SpA (member of the Venetian Cluster for conditioning and industrial refrigeration cluster), Trieste Area Science Park and Laboratory Elettra of Sincrotrone Trieste S.C.p.A.

The stop to Nanofab, research lab which is part of the Venetian Nanotechnology Cluster, was featured by the presentation of industrial applications and by the labs visit, in which a research model applied to the commercialization of different products was presented.

Uniflair, the third world-level enterprise for the production of cooling systems, presented its organization and the internationalization strategies. The delegation had the chance to visit the whole productive complex shepherded by enterprise managers who described the staff departments and presented the different product lines.  Francesco Bettella,  President and Managing Director of Uniflair, greeted the Koranet delegation and answered to questions arisen  on  the  local cluster system and the role that Uniflair plays in it. The showroom visit ended the Venetian stopover of the cluster tour.

In Trieste the delegation visited the first and biggest Italian scientific park: the presentations made by the Director of the park Enzo Moi and by the Director of the Technology Transfer Service Stephen Taylor gave an overview of the services offered by AREA for the Friuli Venezia Giulia region clusters and its clustering strategies for companies located within the scientific park. In the framework of the AREA experience, the Laboratorio Elettra was chosen as a success story for being an international level multidisciplinary research infrastructure, serving as an attraction pole for worldwide researchers and closely interacting with the territory at the same time. The visit to the lab was guided by the Chief Executive Officer Alfonso Franciosi.

The event presentations and photos will be available soon at: www.koranet.eu
